SACRE meeting 13th November 2006
As usual, the meeting began with approving the minutes of the previous meeting. What is normally a routine matter turned into a bizarre event.
During the previous meeting, various members made comments regarding Humanist membership. Some of these were supportive of Humanist involvement; however, one of the members said, "... the fundamental purpose of RE is to promulgate belief in God." The Chair pointed out that this is not the case. She produced an alternative copy of the minutes that omitted all comments from members, sugesting the SACRE approve them. They did, of course.
At the end of the meeting, I made a PowerPoint presentation on Humanism and the benefits of having a representative on the SACRE. This was followed by a lengthy discussion, with many questions. The presentation was well received.
