Horsham Humanists: The evolution of consciousness. Talk by Keir Watson

In the 15th century Natural philosophy - the progenitor of modern science - was just one of many philosophical viewpoints with no special position. Yet with the extraordinary material success of 19th and 20th century science that philosophy has come to dominate our thinking.

In this talk, Keir Watson - a Physics teacher who is currently writing a book on the science of the subjective - will unpack science's spectacular failure to explain consciousness, despite its most precise theories being dependent on a conscious observer.

Keir will present a rationale for approaching the problem in a totally different way which, nevertheless, is in accordance with a Darwinian world view. He will outline his methodology for investigating consciousness from the first person perspective.
